From Jennifer Goldie, Workforce Investment Youth Coordinator
For over thirty years, Schenectady County Job Training Agency has coordinated the Summer Youth Employment Program, providing young people with an opportunity to gain valuable work experience. This year, we plan to employ 520 youth between the ages of 14 and 24 during the summer months to enable them to learn positive work behaviors.
In order to be successful with this program, we rely on the business community to provide youth with a positive, meaningful place to develop their skills. We look for businesses/ agencies who are interested in providing the job tasks for these employees and the supervision, serving as positive role models in helping youth to develop good work habits. Our agency provides all of the wages for their summer work experience as well as an employment counselor to answer any questions and assist with any issues that may arise. With your cooperation, we can form a true partnership in better developing our future workforce.
