Snapping Turtle Time

It’s that time of year.  If you go down Washington Ave or Sunnyside Rd. for the next week or so, keep your eyes open.  If you see what looks like a slow moving rock it could be a snapping turtle looking to lay her eggs.  This is an annual event for the both painted and snapping turtle who live in Collins Lake.

This snapper was spotted on Pytlovany Point this morning.

If you find one, don’t get too close.  Snapping turtles can not fully hide their head like most turtles can.  It’s one of the reasons why they are also more aggressive then most turtles.  Click here for more information.
