Gilboa Dam Flood Zone

There continues to be a lot of talk about the Gilboa Dam and potential for flooding. While there isn't a real danger of a dam break, the resulting "if" has surprised many.

The Daily Gazette published a map from the Schenectady County Office of Emergency Services which shows some of the potential flooding within the village.

The Gazette also quoted county Emergency Management Office Director William Van Hoesen who said, the damage from a dam break could be far worse, because the break would probably happen during a heavy storm, spreading the flooding further.

In Scotia, he believes the river would take over the streets below Beacon Street, including two blocks of Pleasant View Avenue and South Holmes Street and all of Riverside Place and Walton Place.
Lower Riverside Avenue, lower Sanders Avenue and the Glen Sanders Mansion would also flood. The river is predicted to cross Glen Avenue at Collins Park and cover the entire area.
