Windy Times in Scotia
Luckily, we were on vacation last week when high winds left many in the area without power. While most lights remained on in village of Scotia, there were plenty of scary moments.

Friends of Flint House have put together enough money to rebuild the porch, restore the clapboard siding and demolish a falling-apart barn this year, thanks to recent grants.
There continues to be a lot of talk about the Gilboa Dam and potential for flooding. While there isn't a real danger of a dam break, the resulting "if" has surprised many.
In Scotia, he believes the river would take over the streets below Beacon Street, including two blocks of Pleasant View Avenue and South Holmes Street and all of Riverside Place and Walton Place.
Lower Riverside Avenue, lower Sanders Avenue and the Glen Sanders Mansion would also flood. The river is predicted to cross Glen Avenue at Collins Park and cover the entire area.
Well, actually it was more of a personal story about me, but I was pleased the Times Union included the web address for www.VisitScotia.com. Other local papers like the Spotlight refuse to include web addresses and even ignore any photo credits.
You can read the full Times Union article by clicking here. I admit it’s completely self promotional but I do hope the story will encourage kids in our region that anything is possible.

And from today’s Daily Gazette…
The Scotia-Glenville Democrats are seeking potential candidates interested in running for the positions of village trustee, justice and mayor. Interested applicants should contact Cliff Semerad at 377-3813.
Yesterday, I reported that Mayor McLaughlin announced he would not seek a third term as mayor. I saved today to report that current Village Trustee, Kris Kastberg has officially thrown his hat into the ring. Kastberg a Democrat won his seat on the Village Board in 2002 only 21 votes behind fellow trustee, Republican Nelson Austin.
Kastberg has been a village resident since 1982 and is a technology teacher at Scotia-Glenville High School. The Scotia-Glenville Democratic Committee is expected to officially endorsement their candidate in March. Based on his record over the last 4 years, I expect Trustee Kastberg to be their top choice.
Update: 2/6/2006
Today at 3:30 PM at the Turf Tavern, Mayor Michael H. McLaughlin announced he will not be run for re-election in 2006.
